Finger Eleven is an alternative rock band that has earned a devoted following. Their first album, Letters From Chutney, was recorded under the name Rainbow Butt Monkeys, with money won from a rock band search contest on local radio. They changed their name to Finger Eleven for their breakthrough Tip, released on Mercury Records in Canada and re-released by Wind-Up Records in the United States in 1998. The name Finger Eleven comes from an earlier version of the song Thin Spirits from the album Tip. Lead singer, Scott Anderson explains: "when everything is pushing you in one direction and your instinct drives you in another--that’s finger eleven." A year later, drummer Rob Gommerman left the band and was replaced by Rich Beddoe.

Finger Eleven

Slow sinking feeling kills the mood youre conveying
And it pulls me far down below
It might be best if you go
Can it not wait and hope for the best
Will it not stop a while to rest
I need to get up never mind cause Ive done enough
The world waits around
But I keep slipping and losing ground
Do I not try so hard so good
I cant keep changing just because you think I should
Said all I need to and you dont understand still
Wish you saw picture my minds eyes are deep
And theyre cynical
One taken four more kills the pain healing that sore
Ive taken whats left I took it all
And now you wont let me forget
The world waits around
But I keep slipping and losing ground
Do I not try so hard so good
I cant keep changing just because you think I should
Stop youre talking down
I lack the strength to sit or stand
I lost my self confidence in the quicksand
Not now or ever
Sink slowly my treasure
